Handled risk analysis related to deterioration/failure of metals, alloys, concrete, and coatings. Analyzed and documented failures of normal and high strength metallic materials, alloys, organic and inorganic coatings, and others. Analyzed corrosion related distress of pipelines and concrete structures and calculated the remaining strength/life. Designed, activated, and evaluated cathodic protection systems, inspected rehabilitation of several concrete projects, coordinated and directed technical work in concert with other engineering and contracting firms. Served as an officer in NACE technical committees. Authored reports and technical papers.

Reviewed cathodic protection data, metal loss data from magnetic flux leakage investigations, Code of Federal Regulations (2002 and prior), and calculated the remaining strength of corroded pipes using ASME B31G and modified B31G procedures.

Construction Disputes
Investigated corrosion related damage to retaining walls and posts of perimeter wall between properties. Identified, using non-destructive testing, posts that were corroding before failure occurred and possibly resulted in injury. Resulted in significant cost savings. Completed accelerated testing of new formulations of concrete and determined its corrosion properties. Avoided loss of goodwill and recall by recommending improvements to the products.

Thermal Expansion Tank Leak
Investigated premature leak of thermal expansion tank and associated damage to the store and the inventory. Our technical report identified the factors that caused failure.

Staining of a Stainless Steel Roof Material Coated with Lead/Tin Alloy
Extracted samples from the roof to perform EDS & XPS analysis and polarization tests in rainwater to determine the remaining life of the roofing material before corrosion resulted in leaks. Gave several technical presentations to engineers, architects, and attorneys.

Corrosion Engineer, Henkels & McCoy, Inc., Blue Bell, PA

Evaluated several gas and petroleum pipelines, carried out pre-design surveys for cathodic protection systems, designed and evaluated cathodic protection systems. Evaluated coatings quality in the field and in the lab, remotely monitored pipelines and concrete structures. Determined the effect of stray current on concrete and steel structures, evaluated corrosion rate of an aluminum speedboat and designed a sacrificial protection system. Peer reviewed other expert reports on the effectiveness of cathodic protection system.

Corrosion Engineer, Kenneth C. Clear, Inc., Sterling, VA

Developed procedures to evaluate the life cycle costs of various life extension procedures and specifications for cathodic protection systems to be applied to the underside of reinforced concrete structures, later adopted as a part of the state-of-the-art Report by Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP). Conducted tutorials and trained state DOT officials in the state-of-the-art techniques and equipment to evaluate the corrosion condition of reinforced and pre-stressed bridge components, performed corrosion and concrete condition surveys on numerous concrete structures using state-of-the-art non-destructive equipment and procedures, researched the effectiveness of corrosion coupons and corrosion probes.
