Human Factors Engineer, Aviation Safety and Security Technology firm
Served as lead researcher and designer for autonomous UAV Systems and developed proposals for NASA and US Navy. Designed the user interface for airline luggage scanning system and coauthored specification for all potential manufacturers of this system. Designed numerous data structures and data collection devices for studies carried out in the Security Optimization Human Factors Integration and Evaluation (SOHFIE) laboratory. Authored Test and Evaluation Report for a study of incentives for baggage screeners. Participated in data gathering tasks at major airports in many parts of the USA. Photographed simulated bombs, hazardous baggage, and users of SOHFIE systems. Conducted studies in the SOHFIE laboratory. Researched the FAA Marine Stratus Forecast product to determine efficacy by building a product performance database. Authored sub-report including statistical scatter charts. Coauthored air travel safety white paper.
Administrator, Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Designer, The American Law Institute and ALI-ABA
Administered the Document Exchange Technology (DET) department and HFE designed, developed, and implemented a data and workflow structure for the organization's digital intellectual property using common software packages. Designed and presented training sessions for all ALI/ALI-ABA staff in the use of DET. Conducted data gathering among proposed DET users. Created data structures to reduce, analyze, and present this information to management. Designed and created relational data structures to handle all correspondence and billing for ALI-ABA's in-house training service for law firms. Designed and implemented a system to specify, contract, manage, and archive audiovisual digital recordings. User feedback was incorporated into the structure and user interface of each of these projects.
Senior Human Factors Engineer and Industrial Designer, on contract to HRED (US Army), CSC
Conceived and rapid prototyped user interface design concepts on PC, Mac and Silicon Graphics computers and constructed presentation prototypes in 3D materials. Was administrator for HRED computer systems, printers, and networking configuration. Researched, designed, and rapid prototyped in full scale the Command & Control Vehicle multi-user command console. Rapid computer prototyped and presented the man-machine interface for the Land Warrior fighting system and the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR). Developed test procedures and conducted extensive data gathering (questionnaires with prototypes and mock-ups) among proposed users of Land Warrior and DAGR both on site at various military installations. Created data structures to reduce, analyze, and present this information to management.

Integrated and installed Mac computer publishing system including research on color monitors, font procurement, printer networking, software compatibility, and cost for ALI-ABA. Designed the user interface for a business database system to be compliant with the OSF/Motif User Interface Standards. Developed test procedures and conducted extensive data gathering through postal questionnaires among proposed users of digital data-to-telephone system. Created data structures to reduce, analyze and present this information.
Industrial Designer and Human Factors Engineer, CTA Inc.
Conceptualized and had detailed design input for the FAA Human Factors Research Laboratory (HFRL). Designed the audio-video presentation system for the HFRL Presentation Room. Lead Engineer on, and contributed to, specification and design documents, which were accepted by the FAA. Rapid prototyped the user interface for the HFRL.
Senior Human Factors Engineer, Industrial Designer & Operability Lab Supervisor, RCA/General Electric (GE)
Contributed presentation graphics and user interface development on Mac and Silicon Graphics computers. Industrial Designer for U.S. Navy combat control systems for surface warfare (AEGIS) and submarine warfare (Seawolf) programs. Developed test procedures and tested for HF issues using the full scale AEGIS Command and Control room mock-up. Developed testing program and constructed HF test fixtures for an audio aiming cue study for the "Stinger" missile project. Reduced and analyzed the test results and authored reports. Researched a company wide email system, CAD, ISDN, CD-ROM, for International design coordination. Human engineered Crew Station Emulator for the U.S. Army VETRONIC project and supervised its construction. Designed and constructed the form factor and configuration prototype for the Commanders Integrated Display (CID), MIA2 Program. Designed hand held test equipment prototypes surveys for the STEX and AMD Projects. Designed high fidelity prototypes for the STU III Secure Telephone Project. Reduced, analyzed, and presented information on HF issues of the AEGIS, STU III, and VETRONIC projects to management at meetings and in written reports.
