Was responsible for training maintenance and production team to operate and maintain a newly installed 400-ton EAF (28’ shell, 140/157 MVA), operate and maintain a Consteel scrap feed and preheat system, and integrate hot metal feeding to the EAF.
Hoeganaes Corp, Buzau, Romania, Advised and provided staff support to plant manager. Evaluated melt shop production and implemented strategies to improve efficiency. Trained new Romanian melt shop manager in the Hoeganaes production methodology/philosophy.
Core Furnace Systems, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Evaluated melt shop equipment and operations and recommend strategies to improve efficiency for several customers of Core Furnace Systems.

Manager Melting/Atomizing, Hoeganaes Corp., Gallatin, TN, Supplier of steel powder for automotive parts ISO/TS 16949 reg

Was responsible for all melting and atomizing operations of a 300,000-ton per year powder metal producing steel mill. Managed $30 million annual budget, excluding raw materials. Directed supervision of 70+ member production staff. Defined, set, and achieved short- and long-term production, quality, and efficiency goals. Achievements: Increased shop production from 13 heats/day to 21 heats/day, reducing a 21-turn operation to a 15-turn operation.

Daylight Melting/Casting Supervisor, Project Engineer Manager, Nucor Steel, Darlington, SC

Managed and supervised melting and casting operations. Negotiated multi-million dollar contracts for major melt shop equipment purchases. Scheduled and supervised specialty contractor services. Facilitated ongoing employee training and skills development opportunities. Equipment: 160 ton DC EBT, CONSTEEL, LRF, 4-strand EMS Caster. Achievements: Researched, evaluated, and recommended steel-making systems and casting technologies for various Nucor operations. Was leader of the team doing the design of and the equipment purchase for the Nucor-Hertford Consteel plate mill melt shop.

Melting Supervisor / Melt Shop Engineer, Nucor Steel, Plymouth, UT

Supervised all crew, furnace, caster, and billet yard operations, as well as scrap compositions and efficiencies. Researched and implemented new steel-making and casting technologies. Performed metallurgical functions in relation to various melt shop engineering projects. Achievements: Converted runner furnaces to submerged tap holes to minimize slag carry over and lower alloy costs. Developed scrap-weighing system and scrap recipes to lower cost, maximize yield.
