Expertise in electronic circuits, signal processing, probability, digital and wireless communication systems, electromagnetics, microwave engineering, RF/microwave systems, and satellite remote sensing.

Research interests include radar systems, RF and microwave signal propagation, wireless communication systems, satellite and airborne remote sensing systems, satellite altimetry, high resolution earth image processing, ice sheet mapping and change detection, digital elevation models, urban mapping and feature extraction, and geospatial information processing.

This consultant's research involves the use of satellite, airborne, and ground-based microwave and optical remote sensing systems for applications in the areas of earth observation and science, ice sheet mapping and change detection, and geospatial information processing. This consultant's ice sheet mapping and change detection research has been continuously funded by NASA and/or NSF for more than a decade and has involved experimental systems and measurements, modeling and algorithm development, geophysical parameter estimation, and scientific analyses and interpretation. This consultant is an internationally recognized expert in the measurement of polar ice sheet change using precision satellite altimeters, the influence of climate on these changes, and the impact of these changes on global sea levels.

This consultant founded an interdisciplinary center that involves faculty and researchers in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, and geography. The center leverages significant ongoing R&D activities in the areas of satellite and airborne remote sensing, advanced geospatial data processing, automated feature extraction and target recognition, video surveillance, computer vision, intelligent databases, information retrieval, and the detection and characterization of underground structures. By leveraging these multi-disciplinary research skills, the center conducts leading-edge research focused on geospatial intelligence needs for critical for national security, homeland defense, and military combat support. The center occupies a recently constructed multi-million dollar R&D facility, which has both secure and classified areas for research in support of national security objectives. This consultant holds an active TS/SCI security clearance and research focuses on the automated processing and development of high-resolution geospatial information products over urban areas. Examples include high-resolution digital elevation models, urban land cover maps, automated feature extraction of anthropogenic features, and automated change detection
