Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Consulting Firm
Performed over 1,000 indoor environmental quality assessments in public and private facilities related to building design flaws, inferior construction, uncontrolled moisture, unplanned airflow, poor housekeeping, and adverse health effects. Evaluated over 500 questionnaires focusing on the historical, medical, and psychosocial aspects of occupant complaints. Developed project specifications for the removal of over 5,000,000 square ft of water-damaged and microbially impacted building materials in more than 150 residential, educational, commercial, and industrial buildings. Performed "quality assurance" testing to determine bioaerosol and allergen concentrations, to evaluate cleaning efficiency, and to ensure indoor environments were restored to their intended hygienic condition. Recommended improvements in building designs and materials to prevent recurring problems and failures. Performed over 25 industrial hygiene assessments in medical, public, and private sectors. Assisted in radon mitigation engineering and project oversight in public facilities. Assisted in well sampling for both public and private sectors. Performed water sampling for contaminants in public facilities. Monitored the removal of over 100,000 square ft of asbestos-containing building materials in more than 15 elementary and secondary schools. Managed 4 to 12 laborers per abatement and successfully completed all projects in compliance with current NJ state and federal standards, and below estimated budgets. Assisted with "hands-on" training for the EPA-sponsored "Tools for Schools" program and the MidAtlantic Environmental Hygiene Resource Center "Mold Worker and Supervisor" course presented to over 150 educators and 250 remediation contractors, respectively. Assisted with training for Hazard Communication, Confined Space, Chemical Hygiene, and Asbestos Awareness presented to over 200 buildings and grounds personnel, and educators in the New Jersey Public School system. Surveyed over 600 public facilities for reporting and labeling requirements under NJ Right-to-Know and HazCom laws. Managed MSDS and Hazardous Fact Sheet databases containing over 30,000 chemicals and consumer products for 140 public employers throughout NJ. Devised, implemented, and managed an in-house calibration program that increased equipment serviceability by 95%. Designed inspection records, sampling logs, report templates, and project checklists to ease investigation, documentation, and billing procedures for staff industrial hygienists.
