Consulted on advanced materials, including product specification and development, technology assessment, market research, proposal preparation, and intellectual property development and protection.

Chief Scientist, Illinois Superconductor Corporation

Was responsible for technical direction and planning within the company. Included responsibility for procurement and execution of government contracts, supervision of development and support of the company's existing and anticipated product lines in cryogenic instrumentation, fault current limiters, and radio frequency components, and coordination of development programs with marketing efforts.

Directed product development for the company’s RF filter product line from concept through transition to manufacturing. Implemented formal documentation procedure for all technical activities within the company, from advanced development/research to engineering changes to existing products. Oversaw growth of company’s technical staff from 1 full-time professional (in 1991) to a maximum of 35 full-time professionals. Negotiated one technology acquisition, one collaborative development relationship with a private company, and five collaborative development relationships with universities and national laboratories. Oversaw the preparation and prosecution of 40 patent applications, 10 of which have issued to date. Procured $2.75MM in government contract revenue between 1991 and 1995. As principal investigator, successfully administered and directed all of ISC’s government contracts, including an ATP project involving three subcontractors.

Vice President of Engineering, CPS Superconductor Corporation

Supervised research group of eight professionals, responsible for the development of commercial superconductor products including powders, continuous conductors, and three-dimensional shapes. Supervised successful effort to develop and commercialize the production of yttrium barium cuprate powder.

Senior Project Leader, Ceramics Process Systems Corporation

Supervised research group of 12 professionals. Was responsible for projects studying advanced processes for the manufacture of thin film substrates and next-generation electronic packaging. Also supervised project studying the processing and fabrication of high temperature superconducting ceramics.

Staff Scientist/Ceramics Branch at Corporate Research and Development Center, General Electric Company

Studied powder processing and phase equilibria in beta alumina materials for potential battery applications. Optimized alumina arc tube materials for high pressure sodium lamps. Developed multiphase low-thermal expansion silicate materials for integrated circuit supports.
