Technical responsibilities included the design and testing of a 12-foot shaped Cassegrain monopulse reflector antenna, design of a high dynamic range microwave downconverter and IF detector, and radar system integration and testing. Wireless Business Development - Successfully led the product development of a wireless IEEE bus extender.

Aegis Internal Research and Development - Assumed both technical and managerial responsibility for a multi-project $5M IR&D program to develop the next generation Aegis phased array technology. Technical responsibilities included the design and analysis of the antenna architecture including subarray and beamformer specification, time delay analysis, and antenna pattern error analysis and modeling. Managerial responsibilities included tracking program progress and funding, directing the work of in-house personnel, and coordinating the efforts of several research laboratories including projects aimed at developing solid state Transmit/Receive (T/R) modules, high power solid state amplifiers (HPAs), GaAs MMIC phase shifters and VGAs, antenna radiating elements, control modules, and power supplies for the antenna system.
Electronics Engineer, Surveillance Radar Branch, Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, PA
Wideband Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Test Bed Program -Task leader for the in-house development of a state-of-the-art 400-1400 MHz solid state active phased array radar system. Management responsibilities included identifying project goals, developing program plans, schedules, and contracting strategy, as well as directing the work of approximately 15 engineers. Technical responsibilities included analyzing system performance, formulating Transmit/Receiver (T/R) module, antenna and exciter development strategies, and deriving key system and sub-system specifications.
Principal Engineer, Independent Research (IR), Surveillance Radar Branch, Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, PA
Was responsible for the investigation of novel optical control techniques for active phased array antennas. Developed novel microwave FET circuit topologies to realize an optically controlled active impedance element and an optically controlled microwave oscillator. Designed MIC implementations of these circuits using EES of microwave CAD software. Built and tested laboratory models to provide experimental verification of the concepts. Coordinated a cooperative research agreement with the U. S. Army in this research area. Responsibilities also included the procurement and management of over $225K of project funds. This research has been presented in several national and international conferences and resulted in several publications, U. S. Patents, and a Navy research award.
Team Leader, HARPSS Radar Program, Surveillance Radar Branch, Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, PA
Was responsible for the integration and testing of the HARPSS (High Altitude Remote Platform Surveillance System) L-band phased array radar system. Directed the work of several engineers in the areas of subsystem testing, system integration, and radar system testing. Responsible for all design changes and hardware modifications to the radar receiver, exciter, high power driver, A/D converters, and system control and timing circuitry. Directed and coordinated radar system testing against controlled targets including A-7 aircraft and various military helicopters. Conducted high-level system briefs to various civilian and military audiences. Received the Chief of Naval Research Certificate of Commendation for activity in this area.
