County Public Health Epidemiologist and Surveillance Coordinator
Planned, coordinated, and managed all infectious, communicable and bioterrorism related public health outbreak investigations at the county level. Evaluated and trained public health partners in the county about communicable diseases, their prevention, identification, transmission, investigation and control. Provided information and guidance regarding disease investigation to infection control practitioners, health care providers, 17 local health jurisdictions, all acute care hospitals, all long term care facilities and schools within the county. Planned, developed, and evaluated bioterrorism preparedness and infectious disease policies and programs as related to public health emergencies for the county and region. Identified and recruited surveillance partners (hospitals, clinics, private practices, medical examiners, laboratories, county/local health departments, and pharmacists) for early event detection. Developed and enhanced surveillance protocols for early event detection and response to a public health emergency. Was responsible for implementing the CDRSS (Communicable disease reporting and Surveillance system), Zoonotic disease surveillance, sentinel surveillance in health care settings, OTC tracking (over the counter drug sales) data tracking, the Real-time outbreak detecting system (RODS) and the Influenza like illness surveillance system within the county.
Collected and evaluated surveillance data to identify possible outbreaks, disease trends and emerging infections in the county. Communicated relevant surveillance trend data and work collaboratively with public health partners, community organizations and coalitions in planning, development and evaluation of policies and programs related to epidemiology within the county. Evaluated surveillance data to identify cancers that are prevalent in the county, as well as identified risk factors, increased awareness, and assessed and implemented cancer control programs. Worked collaboratively with community partners to develop a community health profile of the county, identifying issues and concerns, and establishing goals and objectives to address these issues within the community health improvement plan.
Served as Chair of the county Infection control Professionals and Public Health Nurses committee meetings. Was a member of the County Mass Immunization and Quarantine committee, the County Bioterrorism task force, County Outbreak and Rapid Response tram, Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance advisory committee, and the State's Pandemic influenza planning committee.
