PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Consultant, Kevin Kennedy Associates Inc.

Providing expertise in software and electrical engineering design for control systems and centralized alarming systems, automation and control system design, reliability analysis, failure analysis, and related expertise to a wide variety of clients.

Lead Engineer, President, Automation and Control firm

Has written numerous proposals and successfully obtained contracts based on those proposals. Performs software and electrical engineering design for control systems and centralized alarming systems. Has provided support for the Military Sealift Command (MSC) vessels, NOAA Research vessels, Coastal Patrol Boats, Offshore supply vessels, and multi-platform supply vessels. This support included engineering support as well as field support. Has successfully designed a suite of data acquisition printed circuit boards for use on proprietary automation systems. Has led the design of a NIBS integrated bridge system and the design of a Navigational Data Distribution System (NDDS) for interfacing various bridge navigational sensors to the vessels weapons system. As a lead engineer, has designed the alarming system for the USCG 87’ CPB. In addition, has designed the propulsion control system, power management system, and centralized alarm system for the NOAA FSV vessels #3 and #4. Has also designed centralized alarm systems and tank gauging systems for Offshore Supply Vessels and Multi-Platform Supply Vessels.

Electrical Engineering Supervisor, Automation and Control firm

Was responsible for technical proposals and pricing. Performed the research required to bid on new contracts, including writing the technical proposals and pricing the design, production and material effort. In addition to the design of the automation and control systems, also filled the role of electrical engineering supervisor. This included the responsibility of supervising the design efforts and personnel efforts of the electrical engineering team. Specifically, personnel management included managing employee time on various jobs, shifting personnel based on multiple project schedules, budgetary constraints on projects and resolution of any project problems. Engineering progress meetings were held to review issues that had arisen during the project and how these issues were to be mitigated. Was responsible for employee management and evaluation of all the electrical engineers. Performed a reliability and maintainability analysis on Repair Station Consoles for the DDX program. The reliability analysis included both RMAAA and FMECA. The analysis predicted the mean time between failures of the system and the mean time to replace a lowest replaceable unit in the system. Designed the software for a Watermist System. The Watermist System design included two graphical user interface enclosures and eight data acquisition enclosures. The automation, alarm and monitoring software was written in Windows CE Embedded, running on an embedded single board computer. The system was successfully qualification tested for MIL-STD-461/462 EMI, MIL-STD-167 Vibration, MIL-S-901 High Shock and Temperature/Humidity.

Senior Electrical Engineer, Automation and Control firm

Has designed a complete complement of intelligent data acquisition and control PC modules. This design effort included the PC board design, the PC board layout, the firmware design and the software design. Has designed the software for the propulsion control system and the vital alarm system for the T-AKR 300 Bob Hope Class Fast Sealift ships. This design was based on the use of intelligent remote data acquisition units and embedded single board computers to acquire data and control the machinery. The software design included the use of Borland C++, Wonderware’s Intouch Human Machine Interface Software, Descartes Science Systems Omniserver, and Microsoft Visual C++. The software design included Main Engine Controls, Controllable Pitch Propeller Controls, Automated Foam and Sprinkling System Controls, and Automated Dewatering Controls. Has designed the software for the propulsion control system and the vital alarm system for the USS Rushmore (LSD-47). This design was based on the use of Allen Bradley PLC's to acquire data and control the machinery. The software design included the use of Wonderware Intouch Human Machine Interface Software, Microsoft Visual C++, Rockwell Software RsLinx, Allen Bradley Panelbuilder, and Rockwell Software RsLogix. Algorithms programmed included Main Engine Controls, Controllable Pitch Propeller Controls, and auxiliary systems. Has designed a dynamic positioning system, voyage management system, portable control unit for the bridge wings and aft control station, and bow thruster control system for the Swath Agor Project. Designed the alarm and monitoring system for Landing Craft, Air Cushioned (LCAC) crafts, which included custom designed data acquisition panels and a flat panel Graphical User Interface display with a custom keypad. Has also designed the hardware and software for the Science Data Network for the WAGB-20 Icebreaker for the U.S. Coast Guard. The software design included the use of Wonderware’s Intouch Human Machine Interface Software, Microsoft Visual C++, and Descartes Science Systems Omniserver. The science data network algorithms programmed included data logging of various scientific sensors. Has designed an Alarm and monitoring system for a Casino Boat and the 87’ Coastal Patrol Boats which included the use of intelligent remote data acquisition units and an Intel 386 microprocessor-based embedded single board computer with the alarm and monitoring software written in Borland C. Has supported her system designs by performing pierside checkout and attending both builder and acceptance trials. Has been committed to design quality and excellence, and has provided training on the systems both in class and on board. This consultant's software designs have been in accordance with CMM Level 3 and ISO 9001.
