Electrical Project Engineer / Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, Polymer Group, Inc. (Chicopee), Benson, NC

Completed electrical and I&C design and guided contractors for installation of an innovative new $30 million nonwoven line. Led startup and troubleshooting for integrated Siemens PLC and drive systems in a new 51,000 sq ft manufacturing facility. Project included fiber processing systems -- material handling and packaging applications - flow and pressure controls for chemicals, water, and steam - extensive coordinated drive lineups (AC vector, motion control, and DC) - and multiple network and communication protocols (TCP/IP, Profibus DP, Profibus FMS, Siemens MPI, and peer-to-peer drive links). Specified and managed power and I&C contracts for $350,000 dryer system addition. Developed improved tramp metal detector for fiber carding equipment; patent disclosure under review. Managed ten electronics technicians in four shifts, covering 450,000 sq ft plant of nine production lines, two pilot plants, warehouse and office areas. Provided hands-on training for ETs and operators on new control technologies.

Senior Process Control Engineer, Champion International, Roanoke Rapids, NC

Served as lead Controls Engineer for two paper machines producing $400,000 per day of high-performance linerboard. Implemented new dryer drainage controls to replace 1960's-era pneumatic controllers - saving over $235,000 per year on steam alone. Trained all operators. Built Foxboro DCS and Allen-Bradley PLC-based controls and operator interfaces, completed startup and control tuning for polymer efficiency improvement project; overall effort saved over $1 million annually in chemical use.

Process / Process Control Engineer, Crown Vantage (James River Corp.), St. Francisville, LA

Initiated $250,000 of capital projects to double the scope of the Bailey DCS. Managed year-long cycle of trials to optimize chemical use and control, including multiple vendors, extensive lab testing, and temporary control changes. Received four corporate awards for process and product development.

Plant Production Scheduler, James River Corporation, Modesto, CA

Scheduled all production for a folding carton plant with four printing presses and $35M annual sales. Trained entire plant staff in Just-In-Time manufacturing principles. Delivered JIT service to customers in spite of recession and equipment breakdown.

Supervised two departments (two-thirds of the operators on site) during night shifts. Co-authored re-write of plant safety program to comply with stringent California OSHA requirements.
