Research Associate, Civil Engineering, University of Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan

Emphasis on Rock and Soil Mechanics. Duties included Research, Consulting, Teaching in Geotechnical Engineering. Was responsible for back analysis of failure zones in the Kunimi tunnel, at Kyushu Island, and in Southern Japan, failure analysis of an open-pit coal mine in Turkey, monitoring bolt tension for slope stability works at Aoshima, on Kyushu island, reaching graduate classes in rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering, consulted in analyzing the stability of several road tunnels in heavily faulted zones at Honshu and Kyushu islands.

Post-Doctorate Fellow, Civil Engineering, University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA

Was responsible for foundation rehabilitation works at the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, using block theory programs, rehabilitation works for the abutments of Pacoima Dam, Los Angeles, using block theory programs, laboratory physical modeling of rock wedges and their interaction with water, in-situ direct shear tests at a dam site in San Diego, California.

Ph.D., Civil Engineering, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne, Switzerland

Was responsible for calculating the complete stability analysis and designed the support system for the "Heslach II" tunnel in Germany. A parametric study was also conducted in order to compare the results by different finite element codes. Conducted numerical and physical model tests analyzing the effects of discontinuities on the stability of shallow tunnels: Finite Element code (MALINA), Distinct Element Code (UDEC), Parameter sensitivity analysis completed. Base friction apparatus was used for physical modeling. The same approaches were also used for the design of support systems for tunnels. Conducted in-situ measurements for the determination of rock mass integrity at the NAGRA test site in Grimsel, Switzerland. The National Cooperative operates this international research facility for the Storage of Radioactive Waste, for the purpose of evaluating nuclear waste repository site selection and criteria. Evaluated and compared testing equipment performance in the areas of stress-strain behavior, excavation methods, rock permeability, temperature effects and geophysical methods. Slope stability analysis of landslide abutting hydroelectric plant site I Mauritius, Africa by using the DEM code. Conducted in-situ stress/ deformation measurements in the rock mass and on the support systems of road tunnels; in swelling rocks at Mont Terri tunnel in Jura mountains and at Neuchatel. Applied field measurements in order to analyze rock stress orientations in Altdorf and slope stability measurements in various sites in the Canton of Valais.
