Review of Printing Press Repair
After reviewing the report from PMPS for work performed, this consultant placed a call to PMPS to discuss the condition of the press in question. This consultant spoke to an individual who was involved in the repair work performed and was told that a considerable amount of work was still needed in addition to what was mentioned in the report in order to get the press back to what PMPS considers to be acceptable running standards. A weekend was the time frame that was allowed for repair work to be done because of scheduling time constraints.
PMPS believes that the following issues (and possibly others) still exist :
- 6th print unit out of tram (not able to complete due to time limitations).
- Tension problem after the oven section (not specifically diagnosed because of time limitations).
- Finishing line not properly aligned with press (not able to complete due to time limitations).
- Ink roller journals in need of repair.
The opinion of PMPS is that the press had many problems most likely due to a poor installation and needed at least 2 - 4 more days work in addition to the weekend of work already performed.
This would directly account for the issues of web brakes that the company experienced when running Boise LWO.
