As an integral part of our overall RAPID RESPONSE ENGINEERING® capabilities, KKAI bases its approach to Business Continuity Planning (BCP) on a structured methodology for managing risk. Every organization faces a finite number of definable risks, and each of these risks can be measured and rated in terms of likelihood of occurrence, detectability of occurrence, and consequences of occurrence. BCP provides substantial opportunities to reduce these inherent levels of risk, and to determine the impact of these risks before they occur. Through BCP, each risk and its impact on any business function can be managed in a manner consistent with organizational needs.
In many instances, KKAI is called upon after an incident has occurred to provide Disaster Recovery in the form of Failure Analysis and Forensic Investigation. Our vast resources of forensic engineers and experts determine the causes, how best to recover and how to prevent future occurrences of similar incidents. Using tools such as Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), KKAI experts help clients identify, prioritize, and correct potential deficiencies in products or processes. FMEA is beneficial in business continuity planning as an exercise that identifies the "what ifs?", allowing preventative measures to be instituted so that future occurrences can be avoided or the impact of future occurrences can be mitigated. Thus the road to disaster recovery often provides the impetus for the development of a business continuity plan that was lacking in the first place. Either way, KKAI's synergistic approach enables the assembly of a team that is targeted to the specific needs of the client.
With physical headquarters, corporate management and administrative staff located in Indianapolis, KKAI operates as a "virtual corporation" extending its scope to include Project Managers, Associates, and Experts from around the globe. By sharing the same computer and telecommunication systems, KKAI experts work "virtually" side by side with each other and with our clients to deliver world-class solutions in the most efficient and timely manner possible. Through our embrace of the latest technology, our clients can access the tremendous capabilities of the global resources of our integrated organization of world-class experts.
Recent research has shown that while single catastrophic events are generally considered to present the greatest need for disaster recovery, it is the more mundane risks that cause more business disruptions. Thus there is a shift of focus from disaster recovery (restoring damaged assets) to business continuity planning (providing for uninterrupted operations and services). While industries that are heavily Information Technology dependent (often concerned with data recovery) seem to be most attuned to achieving best practices in business continuity planning, most industries have significant room for improvement concerning business continutity best practices. For example, recent studies indicated that firms in the pharmaceutical industry lacked preparedness concerning business continuity planning. This is yet another example in which the synergistic approach of KKAI can be of benefit.
For any Business Continuity Plan to work, it requires an on-going, enterprise-wide effort that must be regularly and continually tested to ensure that it remains revelant to risks faced by the organization. KKAI experts can help you achieve a plan that includes a disciplined process for on-going testing and adjustment.
Our experts provide experience in areas including strategic planning, risk assessment, contingency planning, liability, risk-reduction, security, vital records management, continuous testing, and legal issues concerning disaster recovery planning -- as referenced by the Consumer Credit Protection Act, Corpus Juris Secundum, Volume 19, Section 491, and the precedent setting case referred to as the Hooper Doctrine.
Because every business is vulnerable to an unforeseen incident that can disrupt normal business operations, it is essential to carefully prepare and plan so that in such an event, the organizational recovery can be realized with minimal time and effort.
