This consultant worked on a project to develop a state of the art automated assembly line for one of the large pharmaceutical labs. Each work cell within the assembly had to have a very precise mechanical relationship with the overall assembly. Some of these work cells weighed as much as 1500 pounds and had to be placed as close as twenty thousands of an inch to its mating work cell.

This consultant was given the assignment to design a tool to accomplish this task. The following parameters were given. The cost had to be minimal. This consultant could not use a forklift or an overhead crane. The footprint had to be small and had to be able to adapt to all the variable work cell configurations. It had to be adjustable in height. It had to be able to negotiate existing obstacles in the lab. The only sources of power were shop air or electricity.

The solution was to design an air pallet with a unique configuration and with adjustable feet. This consultant worked up a preliminary design, and did a web search for companies with this manufacturing experience. As a result of packaging existing technology with an efficient design, This consultant ended up with a robust air pallet in the lab that performed as required well within the time frame and budget.
