Observations:
Press appears to be well maintained and all settings, pressures and temperatures are within normal operating specs.
Both test rolls looked to be in good condition and were still wrapped just prior to the press run.
Print trial started at 10:am. Roll #1 pulled up with no problems and the crew dialed in fit and register along with color balance at a make ready speed of 15,000 IPH. After about 7000 cutoffs of roll #1, the pressman informed me that he was ready. I made some minor color moves to balance color and marked the first pull sheet as #1. This sheet was used as our color sample to maintain consistent color throughout the run. . Press speed was increased to 25,000 IPH for the balance of the test. The balance of roll #1 ran well with no problems and sample sheets were pulled about every 1000 cutoffs. No significant dusting was visible on the print unit blankets.
Roll #2 experienced a missed splice that was determined to be operator error and not paper related. The press was re-webbed and roll #2 pulled up with no issues. Color and register was maintained throughout roll #2 with no issues. The press was stopped about 1/3 way through the 2nd roll to change a bad water metering roller on the yellow unit which took about 10 minuets. The press was started back up with no issues. The 2nd roll was run completely out with sample being pulled about every 1000 cutoffs. Blankets on all 4 units were closely inspected after the run. No significant dusting was seen on any of the blankets.
Comments:
Paper ran very good with no infeed, running, print, drying or folding issues. No significant dusting was seen even after 2 full rolls were run. No hickies were seen in any of the solid areas of the print graphics through out the entire run. The pressman commented that the paper ran as clean as or cleaner than what he normally sees on similar paper. No web guide or register issues were seen during the run.
