Abstract:
Intelligent Safety SystemTM: The Intelligent Safety System is an innovative design concept that uses information from a suite of sophisticated vehicle sensors to determine crash severity, occupant size, position and seat belt status. This information is processed using new, proprietary, Ford-developed computer algorithms that determine appropriate restraint system settings for multiple new/advanced safety features and enables them to work together to provide optimized occupant protection. This Intelligent Safety System includes the following: adaptive load limiting seatbelt retractors, adaptive airbag venting, a front passenger adaptive airbag tether, adaptive airbag inflators, an adaptive load steering column, a five level front passenger occupant classification sensor, an enhanced advanced restraints control module, and a front driver seat track position sensor.
