Complex technical concepts often need illustration to communicate effectively, and animation takes graphical illustration to the fourth dimension of time. This associate brings a background of Engineering, Manufacturing, and automation into the area of animation to produce effective representations of technical problems. Several cases can be cited where this ability convinced customers to purchase equipment that was a mere idea, and also quickly solved technical problems without the need for full Engineering modeling and design.
Custom equipment requires a huge investment in money often with nothing more than a specification describing performance objectives. Many customers require some measure of technical proof that a concept will work and building prototypes is often out of the question due to cost or time. This associate has taken ideas and concepts into a full working system in order to show how something will work, increasing the amount of trust and credibility between customer and supplier. This is achieved with a free download animation package that is designed for character animation, which produces results comparable to that of software costing thousands. Features such as real-time keyframe animation, fly through, accurate lighting, and a Python programming interface allows a wide range of possibilities. A typical concepting process for the associate involved quickly modeling the customer's product and then moving the parts to show assembly steps. Since many consumer product designs are confidential and Engineering files are not available, the associate would need to focus on representing the product of interest in the most efficient way to illustrate the concept.
Technical problems can be exposed that saves time and money through building an accurate virtual model. One project completed by the associate required modeling linkages and driving the mechanism with a text file of positions. This allowed a movie to be produced of a process that could not be captured using video cameras and recording equipment, and used in the design refinement process. The associate also can leverage a free machine vision software package that includes motion capture (Mocap) and automatic processing routines from video gathered in real-time through PC/USB cameras. These powerful tools can produce real results and solutions for process troubleshooting, auditing, and all with free high-quality software tools.
