Researchers at the New York Structural Biology Center (NYSBC) expressed concerns that nearby vibrations from rock excavation during construction of the planned CCNY buildings might adversely affect the operation of their sensitive equipment, such as electron microscopes and NMR systems. In order to assist NYSBC in planning their research activities during construction, a test program was instituted to measure the vibrations in the NYSBC that are produced by representative construction operations. This consultant measured the ambient vibrations in the building during a typical weekday with no construction activity, as well as taking measurements during construction.
