This KKAI consultant was contracted to study the workforce at XXX Company to determine what their safety attitude was. The survey was conducted using Lauhofff’s questionnaire, developed specifically for this task. "One on one" interviews were conducted with employees on all three shifts.
The XXX Plant has a work force that is very dedicated to producing enough product to meet all of their customer demands. In the past they have been willing to meet this goal through any means possible, as long as they didn't think it was going to jeopardize safety. Most of the employees interviewed have seen a change in focus demonstrated by the management workforce. Previous to this time they have been unsure how significant safety was as it compared to meeting customer demands. With the recent, increased, focus management has put on safety the workforce is now leaning towards a reduction in shortcuts, taking time to make sure an incident will not occur. This is different from earlier when they hoped an incident would not happen.
