John P. Lauhoff P.E., CSP, Lead Consultant
John Lauhoff, P.E., CSP, has investigated hundreds of industrial accidents throughout his 25 plus years of experience working in the safety field in both the industrial sector and the military sector. John’s industrial safety background includes working at both the plant and corporate levels for companies like Aeroquip, General Motors, Ford, and most recently Chrysler LLC. In these varying capacities he has been responsible for employee safety as well as safety equipment design, build, and installation. To perform these duties it was required that he have extensive knowledge of state and federal regulations (OSHA) as well as corporate guidelines. His experience covers all aspects of general industrial safety including, but not limited to, electrical safety, confined space, lock-out / tag-out, powered industrial vehicles, ergonomics, hand tools, hoists and cranes, and personal protective equipment. He developed and taught a basics ergonomic class for the Automotive Division of Aeroquip. His responsibilities spanned 7 states and 14 locations. John also has extensive experience in areas such as accident investigation, root cause analysis, accident prevention, behavioral safety, and human factor engineering.
John has served as an expert witness for both the plaintiff and defense in industrial safety injury cases. He has also worked as a private consultant for companies wishing to improve their safety record.
John balanced a dual career for many years. One as an Officer in the United States Air Force Reserves and the other as a Safety Engineer in general industry. At the time of his retirement, he was an officer in a Civil Engineering squadron responsible for all aspects of safety associated with his command. Due to the unique role of a civil engineering squadron, he was able to apply his safety knowledge to both careers. While on active duty he was a C-130 pilot and squadron safety officer. John is also a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
